To see Strasbourg city from above today there are not many solution! The Strasbourg Notre-Dame Cathedral Platform is the only viewpoint open to the public, where you can have a 360 ° panorama of the city. The view from the summit at 66 meters above the cathedral square, is simply magnificent. You will be able to observe the main buildings of Strasbourg and in good weather see the Vosges to the west and the Black Forest to the east. The only difficulty to access it il to climb the 330 steps which will lead you to the platform.
To access the platform, the entrance is made to the south of the Cathedral via the castle square. The normal rate is € 8 for an adult and € 5 for children up to 18 years of age.
The ascent is made only by a staircase of 330 steps, there is no elevator. As you climb the spiral staircase, you can see many sculptures and details of the cathedral up close. You will also have a beautiful view of the castle square, the Rohan palace and the Notre-Dame museum. Arriving at the platform, you can admire the spire of the Cathedral but above all have a complete panorama of the city of Strasbourg. To the east you can see European Parliament, European institutions, Saint Paul Church and Esplanade district. To the north, Saint-Pierre-le-Jeune church, Haguenau square, old Fischer and Heineken breweries at the entrance to Schiltigheim. To the west, Petite France district, Vauban dam and Covered Bridges, Saint-Thomas church and the Vosges moutain. In the south old Customs, Hospital door, Saint-Guillaume church and the Tobacco factory.
The platform is open from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. in summer and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in winter. Personally I have a little preference for winter hours at the end of the day which allow in good weather to watch the sunset and also to see Strasbourg at night. The other times of the day obviously also have their interests! One solution, come back several times to fully enjoy the panorama of the city.
